Was finally able to give it a go, beat it in my first try ;0 Ayo! And literally at 5PM on the dot! lmao. Good stuff, def did remind me of the Dejavu and Uninvited days that I knew of from childhood on Amiga
Once I figured out what to do, it was pretty quick, but wow this game looks and plays amazingly! I loved the style, the transitions, the sound, everything! I look forward to the full game!
Great work! Pixel art and sound design are amazing. My only criticism, as others have mentioned, is the controls. It would be great to have a controller input, and maybe toggle the comand selection, or make Examine "ON" by default.
This was absolutely amazing. I would totally buy a full version of this. Just one feature request though: additional input methods (mouse or controller). Thank you so much for this fantastic experience!
I don't have a lot of experience with point and click games, but I realllly dug this. It reminded me of a short Junji ito story (Which was a good thing) Can't wait to see what happens. I did make a YouTube video on this- hope ya'll enjoy!
Fascinating little demo, it has all the aesthetic and feel it needs to become a very good NES successor! I definitely would love to see more of this done! Having to manually select options built up a tension I didn't even expect which is great!
I really, really enjoyed this demo. You nailed the aesthetic -- the itty bit graphics, unnerving sound effects, and the dirge looping in the background all hit me straight in the nostalgia. The atmosphere was tense (I shrieked the first time the ghost threatened me) and it was satisfying to streamline and retry my runs until I found the best ending. I would absolutely buy a full-length game. 👍
Very very good! I loved the point & click, having to do everything manually. Really creepy at some parts, but enjoyed it! Trying to read that note was challenging enough. I cannot wait for the full release! Keep up the good work!
Hi there, great work on the game! This reminds me of the old Shadowgate game, the one on NES. I loved that game to death, and was quite sad there are only few games like it. Love your game too, I hope it sees the light of day, as a full release :)
Hi, found your game through manlybadasshero. Looks awesome! I wanted to swing by and show some support because I'm really excited to see more. I love the aesthetic. The clicking, admittedly, got a little tedious. Click on the command, then the thing, then the command again, then another thing. Not enough to put me off playing, but as a constructive criticism, it would be a big quality of life improvement if I could click on Examine, click everything I want to examine, and then click on Move, repeat, so on ad infinitum.
Hey Tristan, thanks for the feedback! We have it so the Shift key retriggers the command at the moment. It acts as the select button, as well as the numpads selecting the commands too. But with that said it also might be best to just keep the selection toggled after using. We'll be sure to keep this in consideration for the final release if we go through with it.
i loved everything about this it was very nostalgic, going into it i didn't expect it to freak me out but the atmosphere, the eerie tone all of it was on point and perfect! only feed back i might give is if you select exam or take or any of them keep it selected after you have examined one option, it gets a little tedious haven't to scroll down to the bottom to do it every time, other than that 5 star game! gameplay above hope you enjoy guys!
oh dang ! i got the smell of junji ito X NES and i loved it ! :D i really hope you guys get all the support to make this project go through and hope you enjoy my vid as well and dont mind me ranting about anime and stuff :D
Really enjoyed my time with the demo. It was creepy while maintaining a balance of subtlety, which I always appreciate in horror. It's amazing how much tension you were able to create in the shoji room with just a bit of text and having the music fade out.
The sound effects and music were a great fit and I found myself poring over the art whenever possible. Take your time, but I would love to see more whenever it's ready.
Loved the whole game's visual style and story! The old-school style of the environment and how well it has been utilised to create this eerie atmosphere in every single room is great! Hoping to see how the story progresses in the future
This was so well done! The retro look, the music, the gameplay-- were all amazing and the game truly would have been at home on an old NES or an old PC. Even the story was intriguing. I had a lot of fun. I think you should keep going with this project!
Hey, I played Your game and found some bugs like the spirit at the door. Also, When in the attic earlier no tin the video the text on the letter lapsed off on the yes and no. Otherwise it is a swell game.
Hey there Castigliones, thanks for writing in. Could you explain what you mean by spirit at the door? As for the text on the letter in the attic, do you mean that the text goes outside of the dialogue box when prompted to read or not read? Thank you for your time.
Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.
This was a really cool retro horror game about exploring haunted areas and solving cases by finding clues and evidence to assist in the main character's journey. The visual design of the game is really amazing and I really liked how beautiful the game was designed where details of the shrine and the exterior of the house really stood out for me. The game mechanics of the game were quite simple where it just took a little time before I got used to the game mechanics of the game. I am curious about the saving function of the game and whether there will be exorcism involved in the game in the future, to make the game more scary and interesting. I was definitely scared while playing the game and I prayed a lot in the game, hoping that it would do something to help the main character XD. The appearance of the ghost was really cool and the storyline of the case so far, has been really intriguing and interesting and I am pretty interested to find out what will happen next in the game. Also, the "yes" and "no" choices in the game are actually really clever as it adds pressure on the player whenever they are going to make a decision, forcing the player to rethink their decisions in fear that they might die if they make the wrong decision XD.
Thank you for reading my comment and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.
I was surprised this game came up on alpha beta gamer. Had I remembered you were the creator of the game the third shift, I wouldn't be surprised that this game would be successful as a demo at first.

Please finish- would definitely buy this!
long time not feeling like this "love it"

We'll be sure to add controller support for sure, thanks!
This was really good. I need the full game as soon as possible. The gameplay was unique and you captured the atmosphere quite well.

This looks great! Would you consider making a Linux build of the game?
When the time comes, we'll be sure to consider it!
Awesome game!

Hi, I find out about a part of the Japanese notation is incorrect. It's not "いいス", it's "いいえ".
I am also looking forward to the development of the Japanese version. Thanks.
Thank you Suzu, fixing that right away!

Tiny thing, but the Japanese title is missing something.
"case file" in Katakana is ケースファイル, you're currently missing the ー
Hey LHRPG, thanks for letting us know! We'll be sure to fix that up for sure.

This really minds me of the old Lucasfilm game Secret of Monkey island. I look forward to seeing how this game progresses.

Nice game. What did you use to create it?
Thanks, it was made in Gamemaker Studio.
Just saw ManlyBadassHero's video on this, definitely hoping you make a full version.

Impressive game. Love the retro style and the plot looks very promising.

I thought the spirit disappeared after you use the candles.
I calling it. This game is going to be on Steam.

cool creepy retro.
I had a lot of fun with this demo, the music, pixel art and gameplay are all great. I would buy a full version.
No-commentary playthrough:
You definitely captured the creepy vibe of your inspirations. Hoping this demo does well enough to convince you to turn it into a full game! You gotta love no commentary sometimes (or many times). Talking kills the mood and the focus on the game sometimes.
Reminds me of Uninvited or Sweet Home. Or the Enigma Of Salazar House.
Uninvited was a big inspiration, and we love us some Enigma of Salazar House!

It also reminds me of Waxworks And Capcom's Sweet Home.
This looks exquisite; really beautiful work
Thank you.
